Podium waterproofing

Waterproofing is a critical component in modern construction, and the adage “prevention is better than cure” holds true. Opting for a high-quality waterproofing system is essential, as relying solely on any waterproofing coating products can result in failures that not only mar the aesthetics of your interiors but also weaken the concrete structure. MCON Rasayan has always been a leader in providing the right waterproofing solutions to clients.

The new generation of waterproofing can be categorized into three segments:

    1. Ease of Application
    2. Optimal Cost vs. Expected Performance
    3. Longevity of Waterproofing vs. Ease of Maintenance

The new generation of waterproofing can be categorized into three segments

  1. Internal wet areas waterproofing – for toilets, kitchen sinks, and balconies.
  2. External wet areas waterproofing – for terraces, basements, and podiums.
  3. External closed areas waterproofing – for water tanks, STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants), and lift pits

MCON Rasayan offers an excellent waterproofing system specifically designed for podiums. This innovative system not only enhances the waterproofing and flooring lifespan but also provides a durable and visually appealing floor.

The primary components used in this system are:

  1. Polyurethane-based liquid membrane
  2. Geotextile sheet
  3. MCON Deco Flooring System

In the case of podium waterproofing, a complete joint-free membrane is applied to the surface to ensure a leak-free future. The Polyurethane membrane possesses impressive 400% elongation properties, addressing the concrete’s life cycle expansion and the tensile load from moving vehicles on the podium.
WATERPROOFING OF PODIUMS – THE IDEAL PROCESS

  • Treatment of corners, coves, and joints with MCON Polymer Mortar
  • Surface Preparation
  • Priming the Surface – Apply MCON Magic Coat Primer to the surface.
  • Waterproofing – Apply the first coat of MCON Magic Coat PU, a 400% elastic waterproof liquid membrane with excellent UV resistance, weathering protection, and foot traffic durability.
  • While the coating is wet, apply Magic Geo Textile to reinforce the membrane. Use a roller to ensure proper adhesion.
  • After 24 hours, apply the final coat of MCON Magic Coat PU (second coat). Ensure a minimum usage of 0.8 kg to 1.0 kg of MCON Magic Coat PU per square meter for a perfect membrane.
  • While the top coat is wet, broadcast fine silica sand on the surface. This layer of sand provides essential mechanical keying for further treatments.

Once the waterproofing is completed then you need to have a beautiful flooring on the top to protect the waterproofing coating and also to provide a perfect floor for people to walk and vehicles to drive. Mcon Deco Floor system is just that solution which has got the Strength of concrete and beauty of decorative imagination. Available in 24 different colours and more than 40 different patterns, it is the designer’s perfect choice for Podium flooring. The methodology is as follows:

Methodology for MCON Deco Floor System:

Step 1: Provide, supply, lay, and level M25/M30 Grade Fiber Reinforced Ready Mix Concrete with an average thickness of 70mm to 100mm, ensuring proper slope for water drainage.

Step 2: Sprinkle and apply MCON Deco Hard Floor in the desired color (2.7 kg per square meter in 2 passes) over the fiber-reinforced concrete. Finish with an aluminum bull float followed by a steel floater to achieve a smooth and even finish. Apply MCON Deco Release powder of the desired shade at 0.113 kg per square meter, place, press, and remove the PU stamp with the desired pattern over the release-covered concrete.

Release powder should be removed with water after 24 hours using a little detergent. For a double-tone effect, only 80% of the release should be removed. In the case of neutral release, the powder should be removed completely. The surface should be cured for at least 7 days, ensuring it remains damp for the first 24 hours.

Step 3:Control joints should be cut between 24 to 72 hours. The concrete should be sufficiently hard to be cut by a concrete cutter or marble cutter as per specified spacing. After cutting, water cure the surface by saturating it with water 3-4 times a day for a minimum of 4-5 days.

Step 4:Treat construction joints by groove cutting them to a size of 10mm x 10mm in panel sizes approximately 3m x 3m or as per site conditions. Clean and fill the joints with MCON Magic Seal PU, allowing air curing for 72 hours.

Step 5: Once the surface is completely dry, apply two coats of MCON Deco Sealer using a brush or roller. Maintain an interval of 5-6 hours between the two coats, depending on the climatic temperature. Ensure an average coverage of 35-40 sqft per kg in 2 coats on the stamped area. Allow it to dry for at least 24 hours before opening the area for utility.

By utilizing the MCON Podium Waterproofing System, we can ensure a long-lasting, waterproofed podium that can withstand heavy rainfall areas. Our authorized applicators ensure the correct application of the system, ensuring the protection and beauty of your external walls.
